One life is enough

There isn’t a lot to us, really
A mere lifetime of years too meager to put a dent in eternity
Chasing dreams…dreams for a tomorrow we do not hold
Now we’re here, tomorrow gone

There isn’t a lot to this one life
Not if we think it’s a lot
Not while it’s hidden away, tightly fastened to our hearts
Seeds aren’t for keeping; even keeping in gold chests

There isn’t a lot to this one life
Not while we think it’s ours to keep
Not until, in a quest for more, we surrender it…
Lose it in a cause, a passion, a person
Maybe all at once, maybe two at a time

There is nothing to this one life
Not until we come to know that this one life, like seed, is for the burying, being broken in half..
For losing ourselves and finding more
For emptying into others and overflowing
It is for the magic of resurrecting from less than nothingness
And finding it is just enough.
